How to move your organic mattress?

The following instructions are instructions for disassembling and reassembling your organic mattress for short move and long term storage moves.

Moving Same Day or Two
Moving? We never recommend moving the mattress as a whole without disassembling the mattress.
Always keep latex away from extreme heat and sunlight, avoid being rolled up in long term storage. Keep dry.
Materials Needed:
You will need 6 bed sheets or plastic sheeting, a tall garbage bag for your casing, (preferably clear), a magic marker, and preferably 2 workers. Each worker should receive a roll of clear packing tape and scissors.
To begin disassembling the mattress
1. Unzip the casing.
2. Take a sheet of bedding or plastic, lay it on one side on top of the mattress.
3. One person at the head or top side of the mattress, one person at the foot of the bed. Flip the layer from the other side onto the sheet. (Noting the firmness and whose side it belongs to)
4. Roll up the layer like a sleeping bag then run tape, around the sheet to hold it in place.  Be very careful not to get tape on the rubber.
5. You can gather each end, the tape around the gather as well. Now it should look like a candy wrapper.
6. Write the firmness down on the tape with a magic marker and whose side it belongs on. You can write, "bottom, middle, or top" to indicate where to place the layer.  So for example, "Firm, Mom, bottom" This would indicate a firm layer goes to mom and belongs on the bottom of the stack.
7. You can use the ends to carry it.
8. Repeat for each layer until all layers are wrapped up.
9. Fold the casing and place in a clean clear bag to keep it clean.
Long Term Storage
FAQ:
Temperature: Climate Controlled, Dry
Pro Tips: Latex is temperature sensitive and can be destroyed by sunlight, heat and being wrapped up to long.
Do not put tape on the latex.
Store: Flat, Do not stack other items on top of the layers.
Casing: Store the casing by sealing up the plastic bag very well from critters. Place the casing wrapped in plastic in a box, sealing up every corner of the box with packing tape.
Materials Needed
An old sheet cut up into 12 strips of fabric 1-6 inches wide.
Plenty of plastic sheets, preferably contractor plastic must be at least 88" long x 46" wide.
6 large contractors plastic bags heavy duty. (You can skip that step if you are placing the layers flat in the moving van with nothing on top)
Packing Tape
Scissors to cut the plastic and tape.
To begin disassembling the mattress & preparing for long term storage.
1. Unzip the casing.
2. Take a sheet of bedding or plastic, lay it on one side on top of the mattress.
3. One person at the head or top side of the mattress, one person at the foot of the bed. Flip the layer from the other side onto the sheet. (Noting the firmness and whose side it belongs on)
4. Wrap the layer up flat with plastic and packing tape twice.
5. Write the firmness down on the tape and whose side it belongs on. You can label it, "bottom, middle, top" to indicate where the layer goes. So for example, "Firm, Mom, bottom" This would indicate a firm layer goes to mom and belongs on the bottom of the stack.
6. Then roll up the layer like a sleeping bag while placing one edge hanging off the bed. While one person holds the layer, the other person runs 1" to 6" thick strips of fabric around the latex. Tie the strings together leaving it loose enough you can put your hand through it.
7. Then do the other side of the mattress the same way. Wrap all the layers.
8. Fold the casing and place in a clean clear bag sealed up to keep it clean. Store in a box that is sealed up very well.  This will keep the pesticides they spray in storage from getting in your casing. The same goes for the latex.
9. When removing the latex, have a large lawn and garden bag available to put the plastic in as it may be contaminated. Wear plastic gloves.
10. To keep pesticides off your latex, I suggest you wrap it flat twice for storage. This way you can take the contaminated layer of plastic off in the driveway and take the clean plastic covered layer to your room for assembly.
12. Place "mom's" layers on one side of the bedroom and "dad's" on the other next to where the bed will go leaving about 80" wide for a king and 70" wide for a queen.
Unpacking Your Mattress
Note: Make sure you install your mattress on a proper support with slats no farther than 3 inches apart. If the bed is a queen or king it must have a center support. Do not wash your casing.
1. Unpack and unzip the casing and lay it on the bed. The label usually goes to the head of the bed.
2. You are going to place the bottom layer of one side on the opposite side then as you unpack the layer, keep the plastic on the bottom because you will be using it to flip the layer over to the other side.
3. Now that the layer is partially unwrapped, flip it to the other side and remove the rest of the plastic.
4. Flop the layer in place, lining up the sides with the bottom seam at the foot of the bed and more importantly at the side of the bed. The head of the bed is no problem as no one sees it.
5. Don't worry, the casing is NOT too small. The casing is designed to hold the layers in tight so you don't have shifting of the layers. As a matter of fact, the latex will shove in as much as 4" if necessary. Tuck in the corners as you go.
6. Repeat doing the other side. Making sure there is no gap in the center, everything is laying flat and lined up as nice as you can get it on the sides and foot. Sometimes you can pull on the bottom of the casing to make sure there is not a wrinkle from unfolding that would prevent the layers from fitting.
7. Continue to repeat this process until all the middle layers then top layers are placed exactly where you want them.  Pay close attention that you don't get a shelf on the side. If you do, it's worth redoing to make it a very pretty bed.
8. You are almost done...Take the top of the casing and lay it on the top layers. Start zipping it up and tucking in the top latex layer as you go. Notice getting started the latex will want to curl. So you might need to start it twice to make sure the latex edge lays down pretty. Continue to go around the mattress tucking in as you go, paying close attention to how the mattress looks.
Congratulations! It's a great job.

What to do with 2 extra boards on a platform bed?
The two extra pieces should be the center supports for the bed if it's a queen or king.
You can place one under each sleeper.
There should be a stick that goes with each center support to hold it in place.
You should re-screw the screws to go through the center supports.
Is it possible to mix layers up?
Yes, try swapping layers with your partner if you like and if need be, you can order a layer exchange by texting us at 479-879-6142.  Texting is our most preferred method for layer exchanges so it gets handled quickly.
I need firmness labels.
If you need firmness labels, please text that request as well by sending a request of which firmness labels you would like? If you need a few brochures we are happy to send them too, just tell us how many to send.
